Another random “day in the life” blog

This morning I read  an article on military.com about a Georgia lawaker, U.S. Rep. Paul Broun, R-Ga., who is trying to pass a bill which bans the sale of pornography on all military posts. Congressman Broun states that “Allowing the sale of pornography on military bases has harmed military men and women by: escalating the number of violent, sexual crimes; feeding a base addiction; eroding the family as the primary building block of society; and denigrating the moral standing of our troops both here and abroad,”

So buying porn makes you a wife-beater, eh?

It really gets me that this Congressman would attempt to take away a Soldier’s entertainment venue in a cheap attempt to please his neoconservative masters back in his home state. I can’t fathom him drawing up this bill for any other reason. A Soldier can see horrific things and kill people in a war half a world away, but heaven forbid if they see a few titties. This is just Outrageous!!!

I certainly hope people call and write their legislators and tell them how bad of an idea this is.

So last night I went to the 9:30 club to watch a Beatles cover band called The Silver Beats. They are Japanese and speak no English. Apparently they learned all the Beatles songs phonetically. They sounded very good. Once I got over the amazing fact that thtese guys sounded like English was their mother tongue there was little else that interested me about it because, quite frankly, I am not impressed with the Beatles and I never have been. Perhaps it’s “blasphemy” but I’ve just never understood what the big deal about them was. There were plenty of good bands back in that time and the Beatles were just one of many. I think they were overrated.

I feel like a fatass. I know I’m not REALLY a fatass but I am definitely not in good shape. I swore to myself that after the holidays and after my family went back home to Oklahoma that I would start going back to the gym. I ought to do it simply because it makes me feel better, but it’s always easy to come up with a good excuse for why “I can’t go today”.  Anyway I’ve told the folks at work that I’m going to start going back to the gym again regularly and they are always saying “Oh is that your New Years resolution?”  Then I get to explain that it isn’t.  I just think that resolutions based on a new calendar year are dumb and people don’t usually stick to them. I’m trying to be different.

January is a tough month. Especially this year for me. After the holidays and all the fun wat the heck is there to look forward to after that? I actually took 2 weeks off in December. I went to Disney World with my parents during the 2nd week of January. Me and my cat, who I take everywhere, flew into Orlando to meet them there. I love Disney World but I won’t be back again for at least another 10 years. I’ve just been so many times that it’s just not as exciting. I also took the week of Christmas off just so I could lounge around my place. I didn’t do a thing.

So… with Halo 3 finally coming out there’s been alot of talk about video gaming all over the news and how fanatical many people, mostly men, can be. I’ve seen plenty of articles in the paper or on the Internet where women lament that they “lose” their boyfriends or husbands to a hyped video game. Basically they are jealous because their beau spends all night in front of the computer or video game console instead of paying attention to them. In fact, on my way through the front door of my apartment I heard a woman about my age complaining on her cell phone that “he plays games from the moment he comes home from work to when he goes to bed at night.” She was visibally distressed.

Listening to her talk made me think to myself, wow I’d make a pretty sweet girlfriend. I’d never bitch about a guy playing Battlefield 2 or Halo all night long. In fact, I’d probably join him.

This NCAA tournament has been somewhat disappointing for me. First of all because my beloved Oklahoma State University Cowboys choked toward the halfway mark of the season and fell all the way from a ranking in the top 10 to not even making the NCAA tournament. Addig insult to injury they then proceeded to lose in the first round in the NIT.

Not having my team in the tourney, I then always root for the underdogs.  And once again I can never win.  This year Cinderella ddin’t make it to the ball. Heck, all 4 of the #1 seeds made it to the elite 8.  Last night my favorite #1 seed, Kansas, was knocked out of the tournament too.  Can’t win.  There’s always next year.

Giving up on my job all together and running away.  I don’t know where.  Going back to graduate school and possibly switching careers… I dunno. Working for the Federal Government can sometimes be really rewarding if what you are doing truly beneifts the taxpayer, or in my case benefits the Soldier.  But… with all the waste and “job creation” that I see running rampant, sometimes I wonder why I even bother. I started a career with the Fed because I wanted to make a difference and do something for society and the day I feel that I am nothing more than a cog in the wheel of bureaucracy I am out.

Poor Stu

So I took my little buddy Stuart to the vet tonight for his once every three years rabies shot.

He’s a very good boy! The vet first commented on his soft fur (Stuey just had a bath) then she turned him around and was like Oh! He has beautiful eyes! And then… she opened his mouth to check his teeth and she said they were the nicest teeth she had seen all day. It was 5:50 pm so surely she had seen alot of cat and dog teeth that day. I have the pride only a parent could explain lol. That’s my boy!

He was pretty tired after the whole ordeal though.

I’m addicted to a reality TV show.

It’s “So You Think You Can Dance”. Does anyone else watch it? If so, who is your favorite contestant?

Mine is Benji. I like him because he is kinda geeky, and a total goofball. I’m really hoping he wins, although the prize is 100K and a contract to dance in Celine Dion’s Vegas show for like a year. He’s not really suited ot it since he specializes in swing dancing and I think it would be alittle slow for him, but hey…

Anyway, just wanted to get that out there

Wow… thought I should update this thing again. Spent the whole week in Lean Six Sigma Blackbelt training. Training is a week a month for 4 months. This is the longest I have been out of the office for my job. In fact, I’ve taken one day of sick leave and one day of vacation in the past year so I am ALWAYS there. I was going through withdrawl so… when my class wrapped up today nice and early at noon, I called the office to see if it made sense for me to come on in and gte some stuff done. So… they all put me on speakerphone and ragged on me. The deputy asked me if I had been hit in the head with a brick or something and that I just need to have fun. It was all in fun, but hey I’m just that dedicated.

Anyway… my cousin is getting married this September so I will be taking a whole week off then possibly to go back to Oklahoma and visit for a bit and then I have a whole week of training the following week so that is 2 weeks outta the office. Whatever shall I do!
